Does anyone have a picture of, or can anyone direct me to a picture of a temporary locomotive paint job. For example, when BN merged with ATSF, a lot of those ATSF locomotives here in Phoenix suddenly got new numbers and BNSF painted over Santa Fe until they were painted in the BNSF pumpkin orange/green scheme.

Are you looking for a specific loco? There are many pictures out there of "patched" locos, from just about every railroad.
The WC had many SD45's from the BN. All the BN lettering was removed, green and black paint remained, and a black "patch" was on each side of the cab with white letters, WC.

Mike, the answer is no on a specific locomotive. I got an Amtrak SW1200 and want to make it look like it was a recent purchase from Amtrak by my railroad. Based on what you have described, a swatch of paint over Amtrak and adding my railroads logo and a patch over the number, and the new number and I suspect I am good to go.

I used to see these but they've all been painted puke yellow now. They looked so much better in black. Union Pacific painted a yellow patch and they appiled their new number. They also threw their logo on the front.
Fox River Valley bought a bunch of GP30s and GP35s from the Chicago and North Western.They unscrewed the metal CNW herald from the cab side and stenciled "FRV" on the side with a can of white spray paint and a stencil. The outline of the herald was very noticeable as it was much less weathered then the surrounding paint.On one GP35 they simply used a magnetic sign like on a pickup truck.

Some of the "rotted pumpkin" Soo Line patch jobs on former Milwaukee Road units were anything but temporary. I think there was one last Milwaukee Road GP40 in the "temporary" Soo Line patch about two full decades or more after the Soo acquired the Milwaukee. Indeed on some of them the black paint over the words "Milwaukee Road" started to fade or wash away and the original lettering re-appeared, like Caspar the Friendly Ghost.

Yep, you got this bearman, Most of the locos I run have been patched from former roads.
Here's a GP38, the GLC, (my proto/freelanced road) is in gray, just under the cab window, I should have put an orange, or black patch before lettering.

And BTR, I well remember those FRV locos, coming into Milwaukee, working on jobs around 43rd and Burnam, and Dave, those Soo Line patches are on my favorites list.
