Chassis for Alco ho brass gp40
Posted by capre91 on Sunday, April 2, 2017 12:47 PM

Hi all, I have an Ho gp40 brass shell, and if anyone can tell me what chassis will fit the shell...Bachmann? Atlas? Athearn? Any help will be appreciated...First venture into a kitbash.

Thank You, Tony

Any idea who the manufacturer of the shell is?

Mike.

OK, I did some searching around, dumb of me to ask who made it, as it is Alco. Dunce  I was confused about Alco, as in American Locomotive works, and I found Alco Models.

Sorry.

There are many brass trains people in here, as I'm not sure who's frame will fit your shell.  In the world of plastic, that I model in, shells can be modified to fit other frames.

It was very easy for me to modify an Athearn chassis to fit my Hallmark GP-9.

.

I know that does not answer your specific question, but as long as the chassis is for the same locomnotive I cannot see it being too difficult.

.

You will probably want to avoid split frames. I ca see them being an easy cause of short circuits with a metal shell.

I just won a bid on an atlas gp38/40 frame. Wish me luck in getting the shell and frame mated.
