Hello,
do you think that walthers will produce the ho walthers cornerstone ashland steel series kits again. I missed the walthers catalogue that mentioned them as discontinued. I have searched on google and e-bay and people are paying amazing prices on e-bay and are hard to find elsewhere. I have a limited budget for modelling and assumed they would produce them for years to come. I model the pennsylvania and new haven railroads and one day hope to build a layout. Just interested in peoples opinions on this topic.
Regards Matthew Redden
Matthew,
It's difficult to predict what Walthers will do, but many of their Cornerstone kits are brought back after a few years. The original price on the steel series kits were pretty high. I'm sure if they are re-issued, the won't be any cheaper.
Nothing Walthers produces is every really discontinued forever. Give 'em four or five years for hobby shops to sell off their stock, and they'll bring it back. (Often, it's right after MR does a project layout on the theme... )

Odd, it's available at Walthers.

There are, I dunno, half a dozen or more structures that make up the Ashland Iron Works series. Individual pieces, sold separately, might be available.
Personally, I'm waiting for an N-scale Hulett Unloader to show up. Plan B is to scratch-build one, but I can still wait a while. Dang!

Not terribly expensive either.

Awright!! (insert fist-pump smiley-face icon here)
Just what I've been waiting for! Plus, accurate detailed to-scale N-scale ocean-going ships. I have a milling machine, and planned to scratch-build all those things. I think I'll wander over to that website for a while and compare notes with whomever is home. Thanks for the link.
That's a pretty steep discount price. In my experience, they are selling out their stock on this and it will be a while before the bring it back to life. However, it's likely they will.
It takes an iron man to play with a toy iron horse.
I'd be curious to know if it was more cost effective to scratchbuild a BOF than use the kit. Given the complexity of the beast, it's probably not that much more difficult!
