Show Me Something......February 2017
Posted by superbe on Wednesday, February 1, 2017 9:54 PM

Granpy made a request for a passenger train. Pictured is one passing an undeveloped site expected to become Crystal Lake.

Please show me an undeveloped space on your layout and your plan for it.

Please show me an undeveloped space on your layout and your plan for it.

I recently "re-engineered" this little corner with new track arrangement and sub roadbed. This gave me a few extra square inches to play with.

I plan to have a laserkit two-storey farm house here—the Rix house is a stand-in—and a one-lane road and crossing.

Show me more construction/development...

If the last contributor did not make a new request, the previous request should be still in effect.

Please show more construction / development.

This is the waterfall area on the Boothbay Railway Village layout as it was last May when construction had to stop for the museum to open for the season. We have done a few things on it after we closed for the season, but then had to defer work for other priority projects like building the Christmas layout for LL Bean. Now we can get working on it again

Please show even more construction / development

More construction.

The Tuscarora is heading north with 30 cars of paper coils and the Blacklog is heading south with a coal load.

The large flat area will be a lift out for access to the tracks in the tunnel.

Show me more construction photos.

Well, somebody has to get the show back on the road.

Pictured are painted water tanks whose idea came from the prototype. The real ones can be seen from I 81 just North of Marion, VA.

My rendition of them is an old picture before I finished he area.

Please show something on your layout whose idea came from the real thing.

On the Boothbay Railway Village layout we model Maine railroading in the 1950s, and have a Stinson Canning plant in Southport fishing village. Beach Cliff was the Stinson brand name, so I made a Beach Cliff sardines billboard on a nearby road.

Stinson was a large company with many canneries along the Maine coast back in the day. Their last 3 canneries closed some time ago, but Beach Cliff products can still be found on grocery shelves, canned out of state unfortunately

Show me another clever idea that came from the real world.

From the real world:

General Industries in Elyria, Ohio was in business under various names for nearly 100 years. It burned to the ground a few years ago but is fondly remembered as a first and sometimes lifetime employer by may of the older folks in town. My model is a much reduced representation.

Our club had a tired area of the layout, two of our club members Leon Lavdas and Bob Stock, redid a commercial area as a bulk unloading facility as Leon was a truck driver and had loaded trucks from facilities like this. Just a paved area for trucks next to a track for unloading covered hoppers of materials.  He scratch built the truck scale and did the paving work around the track.

Every night for sixty-five years the Eastbound Century passed the Westbound Century somewhere near Buffalo N.Y.

I tried to replicate that scene on my layout...

Show me another real-life inspiration on your layout.

Here is the Silver Lady (CZ) coming out of the south portal of the Honeymoon Tunnels and will travel along the retaining wall to the north tunnel.  I know Guys the Honeymoon Tunnels don't have MasonaryPortals, but I didn't like the look of them that way.  Also the CZ is on the upper main and passing a freight  on a Branchline on the other side of the river, pulled by a pair of U-Boats,  U-23Bs.
