I know I Saw a post recently that someone was able to track a peticular road number to find out who was the maker of the car was before he bought it. Any help is appreciated.

If you can post some photos, somebody may recognise some of them.

Google may be able to help by typing in the scale, road name, and road number of the model, such as 'HO AT&SF 1500'
Thanks everyone for your help and trouble.
Those of us who have been around for a while could probably more readily identify a model's manufacturer by looking at the underframe, trucks and coupler mounts. The problem with relying on car numbers is that over the years different manufacturers have issued the same type of car using the same number - and in most such cases, they simply copied the number shown in a photo in a Car Builder's Cyclopedia rather than go to an equipment register and select a different number from the same series.
