Can anyone suggest good places to purcahse a N&W loco for an early 1980s layout loosly-based in southern VA? I prefer not to get one w/ sound or be DCC ready to save cost; ordering from a reputable place is more important. I think a 4-axis loco would handle my 20 in curves more easily than a 6-axis.
Before this purchase, I used an old SF loco w/ 1950s build date (too old!).
Here's 100+ to choose from:

I would try Model Train Stuff
They are my favorite online store.
Good luck

I recommend factory direct trains. Check there as well.

These are the opinions of an under 35 , from the east end of, and modeling, the same section of the Wheeling and Lake Erie railway. As well as a freelanced road (Austinville and Dynamite City railroad).
Google "Hobby Shops - Virgina" and you may find some that specialize in such things.

dinwittyIf you go to Roanoke at the Virginia Museum of Transportation, they have a few N&W engines there, they have 2156 2-8-8-2, you could probably ask if you could buy it....they have a 4-8-0, an 0-8-0 I think also.... erm...oh, wrong era...maybe wrong gauge too...and scale....wonder if they could handle 22...degrees curve....ermm hack...cough..uhmmnn
The prices aren't bad, mainly because they don't work.
But the shipping and handling fees are a deal breaker.
