LIONS and LIGHTING at Avenue H
Posted by BroadwayLion on Sunday, December 21, 2014 5:32 PM

LION got this idea for platform lighting at an outdoor platform.

Ingredients = 1/3 Coffee Stirrer, Painted; 1 Cool white, flat top LED; 1 Thumbtack, painted with point cut off; a pair of wires; a resistor; and heat shrink tubing as needed.

1) Pass wires through painted coffee stirrer, one wire in each chanel.
2) Solder LED to the wires, pull wires tight so LED sits on top of stirrer.
3) Solder 1K onm resistor to one of the leads from the LED.
4) Insert lamp into platform (wires first) pull tight.
5) Glue thumb tack to the top of the LED. (The people in the apartments behind the station will appreciate this touch.)
6) Connect wires.

Lion, those look awesome! They could easily pass for tall parkinglot lights in N Scale. I may have to give this a try.

LION would have prefered to use the smaller 3mm LED, but those I only had in warm white, and this station wants cool white, so I went with the 5mm LED.
