Who is an Sn3 modeler?
Posted by NP2626 on Thursday, October 23, 2014 3:14 PM

Since coming back from my ride on the Durango & Silverton, I have gotten real interested in possibly building an Sn3 layout.  I am weighing the pros and cons of tearing down my present HO Northern Pacific layout and starting one in Sn3.  I would like to find out some particulars, such as what would be a realistic minimum track radius and what code size rail should I consider.  Also, have you built any Railmaster locomotive kits and how did that go?

Any input you would care to share will be appreciated.

Thanking you in advance!

Mark,

Forum member Hminky is into Sn3, may he'll chime in here and help You out. He has His own site also. The Yahoo Sn3 site also...don't know if You checked it out yet:

The S Scale SIG may be a helpful resource

They have a "mentors and specialists" page which includes an Sn3 specialist

I used to model the SP narrow gauge in Sn3, 30 years ago.  It really is a good gauge to model narrow gauge railroads.  I used 24 inch radius and #5 turnouts without any problems.  From what I hear the Railmaster kits are not for novices. Very fun gauge.  Should be a lot more equipment available now but I admit I haven't search that recently.  I left the scale because what was available was mostly Colorado D&RGW equipment.  If there was a good 4-4-0 available I could see modeling the Carson and Colorado RR or Eureka and Palasade.

I guess it's not unexpected; but, there must not be very many Sn3 modelers on this forum!  I was hoping more information would be available here.   I will have to go elsewhere for information, Iguess.  Maybe the Yahoo Sn3 user group will be helpful.

I showed a few models that I recently built in Sn3 in your other post and it shows in my signature that I model a little in Sn3.  Since there was no real reply to what I posted, I didn't really feel a need to reply to this one.

Have fun navigating Yahoo's terrible forums!

 Chuck,

It was certainly not my intentions to snub you and what you had to say and loved the box car and gondolas you showed in my thread!  I "book marked" Wiseman's website.  So, I am sorry that you feel that you did not get recognition to your fine work.

Can I ask you if you have opinions on the questions I asked in post number one of this thread?

Yes, I haven't found the Yahoos Groups site to be very easy to navigate!
