I would say I like the idea, especially if they go together as easily as the 41-46 chevys, but at $8.99 for the RTR Chevys for example , how much cheaper can they get? What I mean is, would it be worth a kit if you only save $1 or $2? Maybe on something like an tractor/trailer it would be more economically attractive.

CMW is considering offering their HO vehicles as kits, which I would endorse.

Got my red and blue one yesterday in the mail.  I have to say that I'm not as happy about the quality of the construction as with other CMW offerings.  The wheels don't spin freely at all on either one and the license plate/rear tail light is pretty fragile.

With that said, it is a nice looking model.  I also like the fact that you can disassemble the cab and bed separately by loosening a screw underneath.  Very nice design feature.

I agree 100% The license plate/rear tail lights have broken off two of the tthree trucks I have. I mentioned the quality in my first post. I cant believe the blue truck made it out of the factory with a cab that bad. It was a good thing the visor I added covered it up. When I took the tires off the wheels, I noticed how sloppy the tires and wheels where made. There was alot of extra plastic on the wheels which make the tires not fit as good as they should. The trucks look like they've been lowered also, just too low. They would have looked alot better if they would have produced the wheels like the prototypes in the advertisements in Model Railroader. They had the wheels painted the body color with a chrome centercap, makes the whole truck look better. HAVING SAID ALL THAT, Im VERY happy that Classic Metal Works is producing the trucks. Im a very big fan of their vehicles and I have a large collection of them to prove it.

Sante Fe:

First, I simply register my pics on Photobuct by uploading the pics you want . When I post on the Forum, I just have Photobucket site already down at the bottom of the screen, pull it up, find my picture, then left double click the picture to enlarge it, then right click on the picture and hit copy. If you copy the picture without enlarging it; and copy it; it will be very small.

Then I pull up the forum, place  the cursor where I want the picture; go up to edit at the top of the screen and hit paste. Bingo the picture is placed right where I wanted it in the text that I am writing, like this:

Try it a couple of times and you will see it is not difficult.

Those look much better than Stock!   Nice Job!

One thing I like to do to some of mine (don't have the Chevy's yet) is to add Plano Lolipop mirrors.

Here is a shot of a Life-Like stake truck (I painted the fenders & cab top) & a Busch Power Wagon (I think I bumped the drivers mirror down by accident).

Nope.  The only ones visible are the ones posted by steamage.

Santa Fe, do you get Copy Image Location if you right click either of his pictures?

Shouldn't make any difference, Santa Fe.  XP is what I'm using, as well.  Where online are your images stored?

When I right click on images there is no option that says copy image location. This may be because Im on an ancient computer running Windows XP??

No pic, Santa Fe.  Just a bunch of computer code.

To post a pic:

  1. Right click on the image you want to post then left click Copy Image Location.
  2. Open a new post and left click the Insert Media icon.  (The icon is on the 2nd line above the text box, 3rd icon from the right - It looks like two cells of a film strip.)
  3. Paste the picture URL into the media text box then click the Insert button.  (Your pic should now become visible inside your post.)
  4. Click the Post button to post it on the forum.

Hope that helps...

Nice pictures. The HD 41-46 from CMW are going to be perfect for you to convert to your truck! I think I finally got the pictures up, that was not fun.

Im posting these pictures to show my favorite kind of Chevy 41-46 2 1/2 ton trucks. My other hobby!

Use to haul the town Christmas tree about 20 miles.

These two old timerswere driving to Portalnd but needed a better transmission.  I fixed them up with an extra one I had.  Talk about weathering a truck!

Your blue truck looks good, the black wash on the grill really helps. There was also a chrome ring around the headlights if the grill was chrome. One thing to note is that Grills on pick ups were chrome but on 1 1/2 ton trucks this was an option and not chrome for commercial vehicles such as REA, but were painted the same color as the rest of the truck.   Ask how do I know this? I have lots of extra 41-46 cabs finders and parts.

Classic Metal Works '41-'46 Chevy Pickup Mods/Improvements
Posted by Santa Fe all the way! on Wednesday, September 7, 2011 10:25 AM

Hello, this is a thread for my mods as well as anyone who has modified/improved the new CMW 41-46 Chevy Pickups. Im a real big fan of these pickups for several reasons not the least of which is the beautiful grill. I ordered and recieved a green, blue, and red example from Model Train Stuff a couple of days ago. I'd have to say that they look great overall, but the quality control was a little rough around the edges on my trucks. The cab on my blue truck had a very noticable flaw above the passenger window.(see pictures), luckily this was no problem as I was going to install a sun visor that would cover it anyhow. I decided to mod the blue truck first, so this is what I did. I installed a sun visor, used a wash to bring out the detail of the great looking grill, painted the fenders black and painted part of the wheels black as the solid chrome was'nt to my liking.  Disassembling the truck was very easy and made painting a breeze. Before painting, I sanded a few rough areas on the body and a few wheels that had excess blobs of plastic that made the tires fit badly. The grill was highlighted by brushing on a thin black wash, letting it dry a little and wiping off the grill bars, so that only the paint in between the bars remained. This turned out better than I expected and I include a picture of the stock red truck next to the blue one for comparison. I still want to weather the wood in the bed, and I might add wide white wall tires, but the blue trucks about done. What do you think??
