I'm trying to find very accurate HO scale models of container and chemical tanker ships. (around 29,000 ton.) If anyone knows of a manufacturer please let me know. I'm having problems finding good models.

Perhaps you could convert the Resin Unlimited model of the Great Lakes Ore Carrier S.S. Edmund Fitzgerald. It appears to be a pretty substantial model from the photo and description, which states that the total model length is 8-1/2 feet. Maybe you could search a ship modeling site for more information on this query. Ships are scenery to most of us railroaders.

BlueJacket Shipmodels of Maine makes excellent and accurate ship models, but no one would make kits for such models in HO, as the length of s supertanker or jumbo containership would be over ten feet in actual length. Do you have a model railroad that can accomodate such a model? There was a custombuilder in Baltimore that made such models, but you could buy an automobile for the price he charged.

i have been looking for the same thing as you. the closest container ship i have found is at: http://www.model-dockyard.com/deans/trein-maersk.htm it is a 1/96th scale model, which is smaller than HO. but it is the best i have found so far. i have also checked custom ship model builders, but they are extremely expensive.

hi,
there is a german company producing HO and N scale full size models of all kinds of ships.. for example Gerd Scheppers length 1060 mm (approx. 41") width 170 mm (6,7 ") for USD 600 excld. freight... they also make older type freighters and coastal ships... they also have H0 scale container cranes that can be found on the harborfronts...

does this german company have a website or what? where are you seeing this stuff? i have been on the watch for some N scale ships. about the only alternative i see so far is to scratchbuild...

CHad, search for "BlueJacket" - I am not sure of their URL but they do have a website - or you can access it through the NMRA/Ribbonrail manufacturer's list. They have a WW II "Liberty Ship' and a T-2 tanker available in 1/192, which can be used for N scale. The models are in the $200.+ range.
