I have been surprised and disappointed to see that the reputable manufacturers have all but abandoned the train set market in the last couple of years. If you can find a set , any set, from Atlas, Athearn, Bachmann (but ONLY the Spectrum series), Life-Like (but ONLY the Proto 1000 series), or Walthers, you will find a very good product at a reasonable price. Buy those, but avoid buying any other train set like the plague. <br /> <br />Your best bet these days is to buy a set, or components, from a hobby shop that emphasizes model railroad products. <br /> <br />--John
