Did we scrap steam too soon?

<p>I think it basically came down to MONEY. With steam you needed water along all routes. You also needed a HUGE turntable to get those engines going back in the direction they came from. It also eliminated the need for cabooses, personel, maintenance on said equipment, and a host of other things that the diesel didn't require. </p><p> Whether you like it or not, steam had seen its better days. </p>
