Rivarossi e* & DCC
Posted by Pennsy58 on Thursday, December 11, 2003 9:35 PM
I am stuck. A new Rivarossi E8 conversion to DCC. This engine has a vertically mounted motor and the gear drops into the rear truck assembly. I have one wire to the front truck and the other wired to the rear truck with electrical tape to isolate the connection from the rest of the metal wheel assembly. Orange and grey to the motor. However, I cannot resolve a short somewhere. If I remove the motor from the truck assembly, no short. Place the motor back into the assembly and a short exists. Seems to be a motor isolation issue? Looking for anyone that has converted this engine for assistance.[:D]

My advice is to pick up Proto 2000 E8/9 off ebay, switch shells if you desire. The P2K unit is much easier to convert, even the pre DCC versions, and is much much better drivetrain.

If you do not want to waste an E-Unit shell, Proto Power West makes a very good drive. I have two of their F-Unit Drives and they are comprible to Proto. THey make a drive for the AHM E8 which is the Same shell now used by Rivorossi.

Problem solved. Stupidity reins again. Whenever I removed the wheels from the truck to solder the wire on, I placed one back in incorrectly. Thus power from both rails was being sent through the truck. Runs fine now. Thanks all for your assistance.[:D]
