I'm not exactly a Pennsy fan, but the Pennsylvania Railroad had a lot more kinds of steam locomotive than listed in the poll, which are sure to be someone's favorites, to wit:

E6 Atlantics 4-4-2
H8 Consolidations 2-8-0
I1 Decapods 2-10-0
J1 Texas 2-10-4
L1 Mikados 2-8-2
M1 Mountains 4-8-2

The Q-2 Duplex was measured just short of 8000hp on the "treadmill" at Altoona. At the risk of opening a can of worms, this makes the Q-2 the biggest baddest locomotive ever built! The J-1 were pretty good as well.

I agree. They are one of the baddest Pennsy locomotives ever. Along with the I-1. I recall hearing the Q2 was the most powerful non-articulated steamer.

How about two more options:
1. All of the above
2. More than are listed

I agree that this poll should have included other Pennsy engine classes. My vote really belongs to the "H" class 2-8-0's,they were the unsung, everyday workhorses of the railroad and at one point in time, legend has it that the PRR had over 3300 2-8-0's on its roster at one time. That's more locomotives than many railroads had TOTAL!!!!!My sentimental vote goes to the M1 4-8-2 Mountain,a great dual-service engine from the house of Keystones and Brunswick Green.Good luck and good modeling.

Steam: J1 and M1

Electric: GG1

Diesel - won't even go there today, although the P Company had a fine selection of BLW and FM products.

work safe

gotta be the 2-10-4 jay !! only 200 hp. off the Q-2 peak on the altoona test plant,
and all kinds of cheaper to operate in the field. there were some technical
problems with these locos when built, because of c&o blueprint errors, but once
ironed out, the texans ruled the road...wherever they could fit.
the tees have also come in for some serious reevaluation recently. turns out
that their early demise was due largely to events beyond prr.s control, as many of
their specialty parts went out of production in the early 50s.....parts that were not
made at altoona, and were covered by patent rights. tee performance wasn't an
issue with experienced enginemen in charge.

Favorites would have to be:

Electric: tie between GG1 (beautiful engine!) and MP54 (ok, it ain't a loco, but I love 'em)
Diesel: Anything prettier than the Sharks?
Steam: Tough choice. Like the I1's, L1's and H's.

Wow, this post is kind of old. One of my original topics, and people are still posting on it.

Many of them are my faves lets say.

Electrics. Can't go to wrong with a GG1.
Steam. All the streamlined stuff.
Diesels. N/A

Poll's set up wrong, it should be for multiple answers. Myself, I'm very fond of the Hippos (2-10-0) and the J's and the M1's. I model Rio Grande during WWII, but I've got four Pennsy locos 'on loan' from Altoona, and I'm very fond of them. The Hippo is an older PFM, the 2 M1's and the J are from BLI. I just like the look of them, they look HEFTY! Always wondered what Pennsy might have done had it decided to go with a simple Articulated (wonder the same thing about Santa Fe, come to think of it), but since they didn't , that incredible J will do very well, thank you.

J1 2-10-4. Only because the B&LE's Texans were basically J1s without keystone logos on them.
