E-Z track users

For people who use E-Z track: what color roadbed do you use. All my E-Z track has black roadbed. And if you ballasted it, did you glue it on, or did you just sprinkle or spread it over the track. Thanks for the help.

My E Z track came with my ACELA and I use it for special use only.
I do not even put ballast on it, just hang it on my wall when not needed.
I like it and all but it too is just not real enough for me. More like a garden
railroad thing for H O . It does work well if you do not keep it outside.

I got gay w/ my acela also and its great considering there isnt too much scenery yet on my layout

Mine came with gray colored roadbed. Yes, I will be ballasting it once Iget my layout to that point.

The different-coloured roadbed is Bachmann's way of differentiating between the track with steel rails and the track with Nickel-Silver rails. The black roadbed is Steel rail, the Grey is Nickel-Silver. Nickel silver is the best material of the two as it doesn't corrode like steel track can, and tends to stay cleaner, so try to buy the grey-roadbed track whenever possible!

You can ballast this type of track, but I would not just leave it loose. You should cement it down with an application of "wet" water, followed by thinned white glue, or matte medium. You can also paint the ties and rails for more realism - but do this before you ballast!

I have used E-Z track a couple times for a couple of Display layouts, (One goes to School to teach kids geomotry in Model Railroading) and I find it works well in a light weight layout aplication becasue the whole assembly is lighter than traditional, cork roadbed, track, and ballast. However, I would personally not use it for my regular modeling as I find it to be to constraining to achieve the effects I am looking for.

However, as a technicle evaluation of it, It works great if you are willing to work with in its constraints. I agree, that Nickle silver should try to be used when ever possible, however, steel is still much more preferable than brass.

As a side note, I have noticed, that Bachman offers more E-Z Track componets on the nickle silver side of the line, indicating to me that is what more people are buying.
