Just an idea:large scale turntables
Posted by Jacktal on Wednesday, November 19, 2003 8:50 PM
I read a reply stating that there weren't any automatic turntables(I mean motorized with sequential stops)made for larger scales,G scale for instance.Would that make sense to use a smaller scale automatic turntable, installed under the layout,to propell a larger,home-made visible one.A simple shaft, center to center, would then have to link them through the workbench.Just an idea..............

The main problem would be weight! An HO scale turntable motor just won't have the juice to swing around a G-scale locomotive, and the pinion in the center would receive an awful lot of stress. Making a turntable with motor isn't incredibly hard, really, and in a bigger scale it's that much easier to handle things as tolerances aren't quite as fine.

Modeling a less-popular scale or line means building your own stuff--something even the HO crowd has to deal with if they're into traction or narrow gauge...
