I got the Sept issue in the mail I believe on Thursday of last week. Here in the far, far reaches of the wild, wild west that is usually five to seven days before they show up in my local hobby shops. I went out to the PX at Luke yesterday and they had the September issue on their magazine rack; they get their magazines on Tuesday so I'm going to guess they must have come in that morning - either that or a week ago which would have been on the first. Yours should show up any day.

About a subscription; I get most of my periodicals both railroad and other hobby interest, mainly woodworking through subscriptions - I do this as much for convenience as economics - I don't get everything in the mail, however, because, if I did I would have no reason to visit my hobby shop. I encourage subscriptions but that is a matter of individual preference; something not realized is that hobby shops do not make a great deal of money on magazine sales; they carry periodicals as convenience to their clientel.

The price of gas has definitely tempered my shopping activities - the hobby shop I prefer is 30 miles away and the sixty mile round trip was costing me about $3.50 in gas every trip - that was $14.00 a month; I was going over about once a week - when gas went above $2.00 a gallon I cut back to about once every ten days - it is now at or above $3.00 a gallon and of late I have only been going over about twice a month. Even at that rate I am only saving about $3.50 a month. If it goes to $4.00 as some prognosticators are forecasting I'll cut back to once every three weeks and at that point I'll probably get subscriptions to those mags I currently buy at the hobby shop. Any higher and I suppose I will probably have to begin shopping at one of the closer hobby shops. I don't suppose that my trips to the hobby shop are going to break me but added to other increases in prices I have had to start keeping an eye on the bottom line of my checkbook.
