You can also try the manufacturers' web sites - they often have good pictures (for obvious reasons) but may also have how to, or step by step. This is one of my favourites. Brian (Hamilton Model Works) makes wood "craftsman" style kits: http://home.interlynx.net/~mvoogt/trains.htm This is my local club's web page - lots of links under member layouts: http://www.ovar.ca/Membership/member_layout.htm You can also find really good pictures of layout plans, construction, buildings, scenery, and so on at: http://www.gatewaynmra.org They specialize in small (4x8 approx.) layouts. Lots of good articles, how-to's and other stuff. Do you have any idea of what you might want to do? Even generally - are you leaning towards steam or diesel? Narrow or standard gauge? Modern or other "era"? Big industry or backwoods? Do you like modelling or running trains? Have you thought about operations or do you like "railfanning"? How much space do you have?
