Modelexpo has a price special on 7 mantua steam
locos. Never have I seen such CHEAP prices. Go to their web site, www.modelexpo-online.com/catc, then click on TRAINS, then click on Mantua. There are 3 pages listing total inventory, but here are the #'s-Man345-157,348-025, 351-014,369,-520,
349-503,348-020, 357-520. For those that don't know, Mantuas are made in Woodbury height NJ and
carry a lifetime guaranty..

To supplement my previous. In order to get the rock bottom price, you may have to tell them you
received a white mailout flyer with the code FLHB.

UPDATE-Modelexpo mixed up their dealer flyer
mailing with their retail flyer mailing and
gave the dealer discount symbol FLHB to some
retail customers including myself. I bot a $100.00
2-8-2 Mikado with the dealer symbol. Will see what the final bill says...There has to be a reason for
cheap cheap prices..

I got their flyer. These prices are very good. Mantua uses traction tires on their locos which could cause contact problems on Atlas Snap Switches, in particular short wheelbase locos.

I own a 4-6-2 light pacific, (17oz) and returned
two 2-8-2 heavy mikados (21oz)to model expo and
they are without traction tires. My rivarossis have tires.

Hi Charles,
I guessI was mistaken about traction tire. I had an 0-6-0 Camelback and an 2-8-0 Camelback that stalled on Snap Switches. I never had a problem with 25 and 35 year old Mantua locos which used no traction tires. Why did you return the two Mikados?

I recently sent email to Mantua to find out whether or not there locos were DCC ready. They are not.

I am just starting into HO railroading and for a beginner DCC is the way to go. I'm not running DCC yet but the conversion will be very simple since the two locos I own are DCC ready.

Art,
My first 2-8-2 developed a squeal going into and
coming out of my 22' curves so I received a replacement 13 days later and asked that they pay
my return shipping charges.

I ran my replacement for two days and then the same squeal developed. Decided that I was stuck with the squeal and decided to keep it. THEN it
went from bad to worse,constant and louder. You
could hear the noise upstairs. Called Mantua but
the repair dept was closed for the week. Then called modelexpo, put the phone to the engine so
they could hear the noise, returned it and asked
for shipping expenses. Also sent letter to CEO at
Mantua and am waiting reply.

That squeal sure sounds like the motor armature is running dry. A touch of oil would probably cure the noise. I have had this problem with the Proto and Spectrum Bachmann engines that I have had in storage for a few years.
