Dead Spots in track

What can cause dead spots in my track? I've cleaned most of the pieces and still when my loco hits certain spots it dies.
Thanks for all the help here.

Try cleaning the inside edges of the rail of the switches. That solved a lot of problems on mine recently.

If the dead spot is large, try using jumper wire to provide more power to the track in that area. I use jumper wire about every 6 feet of track or so. OR you may need to replace that piece of track for a newer one.

A jumper wire is another wire connection to the track (like a piece of terminal track). Atlas (and others I'm sure) sell jumper wire connectors which are attached to rail connectors. They slip on between rail sections. You would then run wire to the transformer and that would help even out the current in the track, and put power where the dead spot is.
