Resources for Santa Fe modelers question

I'd like to model the Abo Canyon section of SF in NM. On the web I saw the 7 bridges. Any other resources, books, or websites. Also wi***o model trackside industries along the Santa Fe in W. Texas, W. Okla, Ariz, & N. M. Most boooks on railroads don't go into much detail about the trackside industries with photos & diagrams. Any ideas?

Hello "FJ and G,"

Are you a member of the Santa Fe Ry. Historical & Modeling Society? It's a great resource and I recommend it highly. The society's Web site is at www.atsfrr.net.

There are two specific kinds of documents that you might find useful in your research, track charts and CLIC books. Track charts are the railroad's record of every mile of track, showing turnouts, bridges, signals, and lots of other data. the Santa Fe society has offered copies of track charts for several sections of the railroad and may have just what you need.

CLIC stands for "Car Location and Industry Code," and from the 1960s on the Santa Fe used these books of station and yard diagrams to identify every track where a car might be set out. They won't help you find out what the various industrial customers looked like, but they do very clearly show where they were and what tracks served them. These books can often be found at railroadiana shows, and at the conventions of the Santa Fe society – the next one of those is this coming summer in Wichita, Kansas.
