Ban on Athearn Locomotives

I think I've probably said this before, but I feel Athearn really need to upgrade their products if they want to survive. Bachmann's cheap locos must be doing serious damage to them - the latest 8-wheel drive ones with full pilots are excellent locos, the detail is better than Athearn BB (nicer handrails - moulded plastic with stanchion detail) and the drive unit is a much smoother, quieter one. I've now added three of these to the collection and have yet to get a lemon. A single Bachmann GP40 had no trouble with a dummy BB GP50 and fully laden container train (one 3-unit and one 5-unit double stack car) on 24in curves, it happily ambled around at walking pace for hours. While they may be a tad iffy on dirty track due to the lack of flywheels (which isn't a problem otherwise - they have excellent motors) they're excellent value and can be detailed later on.

What I'm rather tempted to do is to leave one running with a test load for some time - would the results be of interest?
