Have you considered contacting walthers in the event that they may have accidentally forgot to put the guiderails in? That might be the case. If not I would suggest going the route with the plastruct components. <br /> <br />If forced to go the scratchbuilding route, Dean Freytag's book "The Cyclopedia of Industrial Modelling" has a whole section on cranes and could explain how to build the cranes and craneways better than I ever could.
