Life-Like's N scale SD-7s are pretty good engines. They look good and run well. I own four of them. Try to give them 15" or better curves; they need to stretch their legs.

What scale and product line do you mean? In HO, Life-Like's Proto 200 line is top notch, but their plain, cheap Life Like is not too good.
