World's Greatest Hobby in a restaurant

Just a short note to those in the Highland Village, Lewisville, Flowermound and North Dallas Texas area - Glen and I will be hosting a mini train display at the Village Grill Restaurant in Highland Village, TX this Saturday, August 23rd from 11 am to 3 pm CDT. I am one of the managers of this restaurant.

We will have 2 - 2' x 4' n scale portable modules and 2 - z scale portable modules (one z scale still under construction) there on display. One of the n scale and one z scale are set up for anyone to operate. We have advertised in the local area for parents to bring their kids to have lunch and have an opportunity to be a 'train engineer'. I will be demonstrating scenery making techniques for mountains and landscaping. I have made mock ups of mountains and terrain that the kids can glue ground cover to. Also will show how to make trees that we can 'plant'.

If you are in this area, please stop by and say hello. We are both currently ambassadors for the World's Greatest Hobby and would love to see you there.

Cheers

I originally had the date and time and location in my original post but must have erased it when I made a minor change. I guess it's not a good idea to post topics at 1:30 in the morning after you've put in a 12 hour day.

Cheers

I was in your neck of the woods back in april of this year and was looking for UP Fans, but to my surprise, there just weren't none to be had, what gives??? I'm not sure if UP operates in Texas as I'm not a UP fan except of the TURBINE ERA, but I figured surely, TEXAS, stompen ground of the big western RR's, there must be a UP fan somewhere. Hope your demo goes well,[:)] Worlds Greatest Hobby, just hasn't really taken off here in South Fla. [:(]

Just wanted to say that we brought the trains and the scenery clinic and the kids had a blast. They had fun operating the N scale and Z scale RR's. The kids also made trees that they could take home or "plant on the mountain".

The girls seemed to like the scenery part more, but eventually the boys got into the act. They were making gravel roads and planting grass. The local newspaper came out and took pictures and intereviewed me. The article was in the paper that came out this past Thursday.

The publisher of the paper came in that day with his granddaughter and thought this was a great idea. He said if we ever set it up again at the restaurant or anywhere else within their circulation area that he would be more than happy to advertise it for us in advance.

Just thought I'd pass along this tidbit.[:D]
