Tough question
Posted by RyanLaP on Saturday, May 6, 2006 3:32 PM
Hi modelrairoaders. I need to ask you if you ever put grafetti on your HO train cars? I'm asking this question since there are alot of freight cars that have grafetti. Did you ever put grafetti on your cars and did they workout the way you wanted to?

Sincerely

I never have. I have seen some really talented artists do graffeti in both O and HO scale.
I suppose it depends on one's philosophy. If you model the prototype, you add the grafetti. If you feel your models are a statement of morality and you think grafetti is wrong, you do not. If you think grafetti is art, I suppose you try your hand at it. We have discussed this before and will again. If you ask for artistic help in adding grafetti, some of the artists may say what they did.
If you think you have it right, your standards are too low. my photos http://s12.photobucket.com/albums/a235/ARTHILL/ Art

Graffiti is largely outside the era I model. So, I rarely do any.

If I modeled the modern era I probably world do so. I suppose it's the same as smoking and drinking. If you are against those habits do you still put cigarette ad and beer and wine ads on your layout? Probably so since we try to represent the era and local we are modeling and not making a political or social statement. Some may chose not to but that is their choice. Is it a model layout or a social statement.

Yes. I am a modern modeler and a detail nut so I make sure everything looks modern. That means dirty and grafitti covered cars.

Grafitti decals are available at your LHS. Something I did for a while was to find sites that had samples of grafitti decals you could veiw. I copied these, printed them on onion skin paper, carefully cut them out and glue the onto my freight cars with a THIN layer of white glue. Worked out pretty good. Now I just buy the decals. Lots easier.

Alot of my graffiti are from photo's of real graffiti. I use a decal program to transfer the photo and then I size it to fit. Blair line are nice and easy to work with.[:D]
