Worth of Collection?
Posted by Anonymous on Thursday, August 7, 2003 9:29 PM
Looking for some advice on how to go about pricing a large HO scale collection of Engines, (Steam & Diesel), rolling stock, passenger cars, some brass and many books. It is a quality collection of models from the last 30 to 40 years.
Most everything has been modified/detailed, Kadee couplers, new trucks etc.
Mom is looking to sell the house and my late father's train collection is everywhere! Unfortunately model railroading is not my thing.
Are there online price guides to this older equipment?
I've tried using Ebay as a guide but it is very time consuming.
Hobby Shops want big bucks for consignment sales (up to 40%!!!).
Thanks in advance.
GB

The collection is mainly NY Central, PRR, Erie Lackawana, Some LIRR.

Do you know the predminant railroad modeled? There are several guides available in different scales. You might do well to contact an historicalsociety for the predominant rr. They may have someone in your area that can help you out. Your best bet will still be to sell them on E bay since they willm charge nowhere near 40%
