Walthers Crane
Posted by Anonymous on Wednesday, April 18, 2001 10:40 PM
Does anyone have any recommendations on how to get
rid of the horrible "whine" on my Walthers American railcrane? Or does it just need a break in period?

thanks,
Ian

I solved mine by ripping the motor out! The break in period didnt end. It broke me down first. Unfortunately, it was very poorly designed in the first place. My initial thought was to enclose the gearing to reduce the noise, but didnt come up with any way to do it. Im afraid its the nature of that little beast.

I'm not sure I'd have used the term "whine", but horrible works for me. My crane sits in it's box, waiting for a solution to the noise. Actually, I'm still working on making the MDC shay run quietly. I'm afraid only a complete repowering will cure the crane's noise problem. On the other hand, the prototype isn't the quietest thing around either.
