Matte Medium?

I have see several articles mentioning matte medium but the people in
my local arts and crafts store don't have the foggiest idea what it is.Can
some one please tell me-also where do you get it.

The arts and crafts people will be familiar with Modge Podge - Matte Medium. There are two types, glossy and Matte. I know Michael's carries it. I usually buy mine at Walmart, over near the plants, in the arts and crafts there - since it is the cheapest.

You have to ask for ACRYLIC matte medium. You should be able to get it in a good art store. I find that this can be more expensive than the Scenic Cement from the hobby shop -- now that doesn't happen very often.
I believe that "medium" is something that artists mix pigment into to make a paint.

Take it from somebody who has built a lot of scenery and tried a lot of adhesives...matte medium isn't all it's been cracked up to be. Diluted white or yellow glue works just as well and is a lot cheaper.

One of the advantages touted for matte medium is that it forms a somewhat flexible bond, which is true. It thus can provide a minor contribution to noise isolation.

A problem is that most matte medium contains talcum powder, which tends to leave a white residue on your scenery. I've heard from otherwise reliable sources that acrylic GLOSS medium lacks the talc, so it may be worth a try. Adding water to the gloss medium tends to reduce the gloss (while adding water to matte medium tends to make it somewhat glossier, so the overall effect may be similar).

I once new a guy by that name, but he spelled it Matt. Hobby Lobby has it in the artist paint section. As to minium wage store clerks not knowing what it is, ask them for a camel hair brush and and they will send you to Petsmart.

If your hobby shop has a Woodland Scenics display, they sell matte medium in usable quantities. But I am surprised a true craft/art supply shop would not know what you are talking about.
