converting life-like couplers?

I was recently given a Life-Like GP18 diesel locomotive but the couplers don't match the ones on my Micro-Trains cars. Will the "1135 truck mount couplers for Life-like" fix this problem?
Are they difficult to convert?
Thanks, I'm new to all of this.

hi from new zealand ! i personally would recommend going with BODY mount couplers, rather than truck mount. try mtl #1166. truck mount can be fiddly to replace and popular opinion,i think, is that body mount is always preferable. newer generation locos have body mount.

HI MY NAME IS LARRY
TO ANSWER YOUR QUESTION NO THE 1135 COUPLERS ARE FOR THE BACHMANN UNITS THE WAY I WOULD GO IS TO FIND A MICRO TRAINS COUPLER CONVERSION LIST IT TELLS YOU WHAT COUPLER FOR WHAT LOCO OR ROLLING STOCK
SECONDLY BODY MOUNT IS THE ONLY WAY TO GO I AM ASSUMING THIS IS N SCALE YOU WOULD NEED A NUMBER 60 DRILL BIT A 00-90 TAP AND A FEW 00-90 SCREWS ONCE THERE ON THEY WORK FLAWLESSLY THIS IS FROM OWN EXPERIENCE AS I HAVE DANG NEAR TWO DOZEN LOCOMOTIVES ATLAS/KATO
HOPE THIS HELPS YA
RESPECTFULLY,
LARRY

The MT conversion chart indicates that the 1135 is the one, but there seems to be other options. If the unit came with "pre-1995 Bloomberg truck sideframes" (whatever that is), then 1135 is it. If it came with "post 1995 Bloomberg truck side frames", then it seems you have a choice of 1128, 1129, & 1130.
If you are ambitious and want to convert the unit to body mount couplers, then the 1116 is what you need.
I don't own any GP18's, only a LL SD7 & a couple of GP20's. These units come with body mounts and the conversion (if you get the pre-assembled MT couplers) is a breeze.
Sounds like you picked up one of those Model Expo specials? [:D] I was tempted to myself. I model N&W, and that LL geep looks pretty nice to match my N&W SD7.
