proto 2000 v's bachmann

i have 1 proto 2000 gp30 and 1 bachmann gp30 and id like to run these locos together , but i have found out that the bachmann loco goes a lot faster than the proto 2000 loco . so my question is , would anyone know how i could fix the bachmann loco so that theres 2 locos run well with each other becauce the bachmann loco just wants to take off and drag the proto behind it , thanks

There are at least three solutions:

1. DCC - best.

2. put a bridge rectifier in series with the motor of the faster loco, at least 1A rating. 1st stage to try: split one of the motor leads, connect one end to one of the AC connections of the bridge, connect the other end to the + AND - connections of the bridge. If it is still too fast, change the +/- connection to the other AC connection. Make sure nothing shorts. If it is still not enough, add more ins series.

3. and worst solution, put resistors in series with the motor.

Nigel made a good point..However there is a much cheaper way..Repower the B-Man GP30 with a P2K GP30 drive or better still sell the B-man and buy a P2K GP30.

ok , and whats a p2k and would you no a price range on a p2k motor and are they easy to install ??

P2K = LifeLike Proto 2000.

It's going to be cheaper to add a rectifier or resistors to the Bachmann loco than to remotor it (unlikely to be easy, either) or replace it.

If you feel up to the job, I'd look at Nigel's solution. If not, replacing the loco is probably your other option.

ok well ill give the rectifier ago , an dif i was to do the resistor job , how would i do that job properly ? , thanks

You would fit the bachman GP30 shell on the P2K(Life Like Proto 2000)drive..Now another option would be to use the Athearn GP35 drive and the Bachman shell..This is very easy to do and requires very little filing work on the Athearn GP35 frame..
