Hi folks,
I am building/operating an HO layout based on a CN branchline set in the mid 50's. I have noticed that the Bachmann 2-6-0 Mogul which is available in CN colours has been offered by several mail-order outfits for about $40. This is a very good price. Does anyone have one of these? What kind of couplers does it have? Is it a good-running model? I would absolutely love to get one of their new 4-6-0 models but the going price is over my budget. Any info would be appreciated.
Thanks
Charles

Don't own Bachmann but the spectrum series is their premium model.
I looked back five years and can't find a MR review
on the 2-6-0.
When dealing with mail order firms you can't pre-test so you should famaliarize with return policy in the event you have an operating problem.
Return postage back to the mail order firm.
Postage back to you.
Restocking fees.
Most manufacturers carry a warranty and the mail order firm does not want to get involed returns
for repairs.
I suspect the 2-6-0 comes with the horn-hook coupler.
The www.kadee.com/conv/list.htm lists shows two versions of the 2-6-0, each with different KD couplers.
It's been my limited experience that some steam engines could be problematic so I wouldn't expect too much perfection for $40.00
For what it's worth the 2-8-0 spectrum got a good write up in MR June 98 and most modelers have good comments about this baby.

I believe this is there standard series, and comes with plastic wheels on the tender. You may have problems on turnouts with this engine. I would save my money for a spectrum series
