Also it looks like you may need to use the macro mode - with the camera closer to the engine to pick up the details you want us to see. <br /> <br />Aside from that you should consider using a spotlight to light the "shadowed" side - in this case the spotlight might point so that is perpendicular (straight toward) to the side of the engine. A clip on spot light can be mounted to your camera tripod and angled at your subject - to better light the shadow. <br /> <br />A white backbround such as a cloth or white paper lined shadow box (which can be made with just a carton) would be good too.
