Spectrum 44 tonner
Posted by Anonymous on Monday, March 26, 2001 3:45 PM
I have a problem with my little switcher that I just can't figure out. The spectrum 44 tonner have two motors in it, one for each truck. The motors seem to aquire a dead spot and won't run but one at a time in witch the engine doesn't move because a motor won't go. I have cleaned the wheels, pick ups, brushes, the hole shabang. Sometimes the motor restarts, most times not. I have replaced both motors, sent one back, rereplaced it, ram the engine for a total of maybe 12 - 15 hours and the engine is down again. Has any one else had this problem with the 44 or 70 tonners (both set up the same) and what did you do to fix it. I love the looks of this engine, I'd hate not to be able to use it. Any suggestions? P.S. I don't run it at excesive speeds to damage it. thanks

It seams that many are having problems with their
44 toners. I recommend that you check out the
information on www.trainorder.com chat board on Bachmann's 44's. The model's motor is of subspect quality and they have some good advice on them.

I hope you get it out of the back shop.

HiJames,
One of them talked about how Bachmann used cheap solder on the commentator of the motors than brake down and shorts out the motor. He discribed how he disasembled the motor and under magification cleaned little pieces of solder from between the commentator plates. He said his ran great after that. Others talked of the necessity
of good lubercation and a carefull brake in.

I hope this helps

Hey guys, I did this the right way. (I think) Called Bauchman Prod., explained to the custumer service lady my situation, and she had two NEW motors sent to me, No charge, and got them in three days. Thanks again for the help.

Strangly enough I bought 2 of the Bachmann 44 ton center bab switchers and this was when they first came out as Bachmann Spectrum and I not once had any trouble with mine and pull fairly good for its size. I may have just got lucky and got 2 good ones now that they are around 7 or 8 years old or better and still going strong.
