According to the book by TLC Pubs entitled NEW YORK CENTRAL SYSTEM DIESEL LOCOMOTIVES, the two versions were the same length but horse pwr ratings were considerably differant. The 4 axle unit used a 1600, 2000 & 2400 horse pwr prime movers, the 5 axle unit used only the 2000 and 2400 horse pwr prime movers. In addition, nine (9) gear ratios were offered, on both. According to Kalmbachs Diesel book, only 165 were ever sold. A lot more info on these great locomotives, can be had in the book called C-LINERS by David R. Sweetland. It's sold by Withers Publishing. Hope it's still in print. Hope this info helps.....[:)]
