Soundtraxx has disabled their "Sound Samples" feature on website!

Hi Crew,

Went to Soundtraxx's website as I have many times in the past 3 years. I clicked on the "Sound Samples" icon. It no longer works! [:0] The other icons work perfectly.
They are revamping there website, however, I wonder it there are one of two simple schools of thought at work here:

1. Either they're just updating the sound samples and will include tracks from the new Tsunami.

OR

2. Since modelers will now be able to "Upload" sound into Digitrax and Loksound decoders, perhaps Soundtraxx would not want thier sounds "pirated".

Hopefully I'm wrong, but I do wonder about the possiblity of reason #2. A month ago I read some back & forth banter on the Yahoo forums about Soundtraxx sounds being uploaded into Lok Sound decoders. Didn't pay it much attention.........now this happens.

Would not make much sense though, since the sounds on the Soundtraxx website were compressed and wouldn't have the "crystal clear" fidelity if uploaded into a competitor's decoder. Plus the sound samples only give a few seconds of sound anyway. There are far better sound samples on prototype locomotive horn websites.

I hope it's reason number 1 and that I'm just overreacting and that the Tsunami decoder and "Sound Samples" are just up ahead. [;)]

The thread ont he Yahoo group was HUGE on this subject - and I really think the 'copying' issue is being blown WAY out of proportion. Those sound samples were in odd patterns and of a short duration. Now, you certainly oculd take that file and upload it to one of the newer sound decoders that allows the user to load sounds, but how good would it be? Who would be happy wih that? You didn't get to hear ALL the sounds, the motor sounds were quite abbreviated, and you got a few horn blasts. Somehow I think they have a LOT more serious things to worry about than people taking short reduced quality sound clips and using them on loadable decoders. Sucha s the huge load of customer ill will created by the utter silence ont he huge delay over the Tsunami. Coupled with the announcement of them now sellign locomotives, it HAS to make you wonder if the Tsunami delyas really were due to quality ad parts availability, or simply limited personnel trying to do too many things, such as starta new subsidiary.
There are ways to put sound and movie clips on web sites that make it very difficult for people to save them on their local computers, if they really wanted to do it. Hopefully the sound clips will be back, because I don;t know how many people will be willing to spend that kind of money on a sound system withotu hearing it.
It COULD be they are removed because they were all from DSX and DSD decoders, not Tsunami, and with the recent 50% or more off sales on the DSX and DSD decoders, it would appear they are dumping all remaining inventory to make room for the Tsunami. So why have sound samples from an obsolete product that won;t be sold anymore? Let's hope this is the real reason.
