B & O paint schemes for Aussies - HELP!!

Can any one provide us with the correct colours - names and /or numbers, Floquil or Humbrol only as that is all we can get here in OZ - for the B & O in 1950? Most photos from that time are in black & white. Also , was Royal Blue the same colour as Regal Blue? Cheers from sunny Adelaide

You can very likely get help through a link on the B&O RR Historical Society site. You can access this directly from this site by clicking on "historical societies" over to the left of this page. Follow the opener steps for the B&O site, then go to their Links, for the Yahoo and railroad.net links.
There's a lot of folks on these that are fans and modellers both of the mighty B&O....glad there are fans in Oz too..there are a few here in the snowy northern colonies also.
best regards / Mike, 100 miles NW of Toronto.

Hello in Adelaide,

See "Royal Blue F-units," by Jeff Wilson, in the August 1995 MODEL RAILROADER, page 84. Jeff did not give any Floquil paint recommendations, but his article includes color photos and HO scale color renderings of two B&O paint schemes. If you don't have the back issue you can order it in the "Shopping" section of this site.

Floquil makes a B&O Royal Blue, no. 414269, but I haven't had a chance to compare an actual color sample of this paint to any references. If you have the book "Pullman Paint and Lettering Notebook" by Arthur Dubin, there's a printed color sample of the B&O blue on page 154, and it looks close to the Floquil color sample in the Walthers catalog.

Happy holidays,

You may want to take a look at George Elwood's Fallen Flag website. Lots of color pictures of B&O units in all different schems. Most of them are dated so you can pick oput the era that interests you.

Hope this helps
