Tunnel portal question
Posted by Anonymous on Friday, June 10, 2005 9:36 AM
Has anyone ever modeled a tunnel for automobile traffic? I am thinking of doing this on my HO layout and was wondering what size tunnel portal to use. Should I use a portal made for HO trains, and maybe cut it down to make it shorter? Or should I use a N scale portal, or would it be too small? Thanks in advance for your help.

I think a N scale portal should be fine. You my have to cut it down a little. Remember, modeling cars on your layout doesn't have to be as accurate as the train your running. It's really up to you on what looks right.

use a double wide ho portal and just cut it down a little. the stonework on an n scale portal might look too small if it's near the front of your layout. a single track portal is about as wide as a one lane road. a double track portal is as wide as a two lane road.

I agree with this 100%. You've got a neat idea there. I think I'll barrow it if you don't mind...
