two table layouts
Posted by Anonymous on Friday, November 8, 2002 11:07 PM
I am building a lay out which due to space has to be on two tables how is the best way to join these together, and lay the track over the joints
so as not to cause derailment.

I don't have a reference for N track modules, but they have a standard that has been serving them well over the years, so I would just copy what they do. Some one else might point you in the right direction on the net.

or, you could also screw two of those flat, metal "hinge Plates" on the top, bottom or edge where the two tables join, and then raise the track on a trestle or something over the joint. If you put the hinge plates on top, you can just place a structure over them for easy access. Then, when you need to take the tables apart, simply unsscrew them.

Moduals I`ve seen at the shows have used a piece of track over the connection point and have it join to the track past the connection. At these points the modual can be separated.Smooth operation.

to make the two tables join well just butt them together and screw regular door hinges underneith and to seperate the tables just pull out the pins from your hinges. This will allow you to re-assemble the pieces faster and have a tight bond between tables. I first saw this in an old MR article mentioning the Miami Maerklin Modular group and t hat is how they did it, fast set up and knock down and great strength.
