Internet Hobbies
Posted by Anonymous on Saturday, June 4, 2005 3:57 AM
I am thinking about ordering some items from Internet Hobbies, seeing as their prices seem very competitive. Has anyone else delt with them?

Bearing in mind I am going to have th items shipped to the UK - has anyone had any international experience with them?

Regards,

Stephen.

No international experience, but they were fair and complete - just very, very slow. J.R.

I've also used them and agree with J.R.--they are sometimes very slow in delivering. My choice for the most reliable and competitive on-line are First Place Hobbies, Discount Model Trains Online, and Train Track Model Railroad Supplies (in no order of preference--they've all been good to deal with). Each of these dealers has been more competitive than Walthers, but I don't think you can beat Walthers for service and reliability! Just my opinion....

I have no international expierience with them but have ordered from them several times. I would agree with the other folks, good folks but very slow. I placed an order back on the 27th of last month and it hasn't even shipped yet. Nothings backordered they are just slow getting items out the door. I make sure when I order from them it is not an item I need right away. Their prices are low enough to make it worth it I think.

This is the same experience I had with them. There are a number of internet hobby stores, but the problem is that some of them may take up to a month to get your item to you. And don't ever order anything from Historic Rail unless you're willing to wait six weeks or more for your item(s)...

I've bought things from them a few times - they were easy to deal with and weren't slow with the items I bought.

A few months ago they had a sale on Tortoise switch machines. I ordered 14, but their system only recorded an order for one. When it arrived I called and they promptly shipped 13 more, and didn't charge me shipping for the additional units!

I recommend them without hesitation.

Hi;

I live in California, and have dealt with them many times. If the item you have ordered is in stock, it will ship within a few days, if not in stock, it may take a while, but they have always been VERY helpful and responsive to e-mails with questions. I recommend them without hesitation.

Tom,

I have put an order in for the Rivarossi 60' Heavyweight coaches in SP Green and the Spectrum Hicken SP Tender.

It has been two weeks seince the order was place! The only reason I want to speed things up is so that I can place another order (Walthers SP Lark Heavyweights) and use the $10 discount! I might actually e-mail them and see if I can place another order and combine them?

I'm not too fussed about waiting - the saving you make compared to the price you would pay for the stuff in the UK is well worth it!

Regards,

Stephen.

Stephen, I found the same, getting stuff from the States is much cheaper than from my LHS (probably 50% cheaper for some things) but you do have to wait a bit longer. I usually shop from Tony's train ex, and wait three - fours weeks.

I found if I order too much at one time customs holds it till I pay ransom... opps I mean tax duty on it, LOL, I now keep it well under $1000 NZ.

I ordered 2 times from Internet Hobbies (long, long delivery...) and I stopped it when a parcel never arrived and my numerous mails remained unanswered... I lost 150$ and erased this adress in my computer.... [:(!] ! I'm in France and I found others internet stores more and more honest and cheaper .

I have ordered four steam engines from them over the last two years and every one of them I received in less then two weeks, the last one just a few weeks ago and that one I received in less then a week, the key to how soon you get them depends on if they have it in stock at the time you place the order. A plus
by ordering from them is they will match anybodys price. I've been very happy
dealing with them.
