This is why trains are so dangerous. Please be careful when you're around trains, whether they're stopped, and especially when their moving.

some people just ask for it...that's got to be the last place a person should be near on a train..the couplers....best thing is to just stay at a distance from them if you're not a RR employee and trained to deal safely with them...Chuck

Technically, stories of this kind don't belong on the modeling forum. The Trains Magazine forum is the better venue.

Legally, I don't think this guy has a leg to stand on. Drunk or not he was trespassing, and the courts will see that.

Elliot, you are right. This is not the best place for a story like this. However, since a lot of us here go railfanning. I believe it shows everyone how dangerous it is to be around trains. And that they should be as careful as possible when around them. I just went and posted this story at the Trains magazine forum.

Well Rob, if we are going to turn this into a railroad safety lesson, here's rule number 1:

Never go under, over or between railroad cars, even if they aren't connected to a locomotive.

That was this guy's big mistake. He wanted to get to the other side of the train, and took the shortest route.

It is dangerous enough walking around the end of a train, but at least you have a chance.

If you are on foot and must get past a stopped train, do so where the crew can see you. Hitting you ruins their day too.
