Nothing important, they just mean you've posted a lot of topics and/or replies.

Some people wanted Bergie to get rid of them because people were posting garbage just to increase their 'count' - I don't remember the exact topic address, but if you search on 'Discontinuance of Stars' or 'DOS' you can probably find it.

Cheers,

Too many hits to the head will cause that as well[%-)][banghead][banghead][%-)]

For the most part Ken is right, however the number of errant posts are down over this past year. Please remember this Forum is not for the purist as for the most part we are just a bunch of guys and one or two gals who like to ask questions, mostly about MR'ng and talk trains but who also like to talk about the "Weather".

I've seem comments on another forum that this (our) forum is mostly for dilletants and newbies. Well, count me in, and as long as Fergie, Randy, Joe, Don, Mouse, Tom, Mark, Ray, and a host of others enjoy our company, we're well set up...THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!! [:D]

Unfortunatey, some people have taken the stars to mean 'seniority' or authority, as in, "Wow, four stars, that must mean this person is a really knowledgeable and skilled modeler. Better listen and take to heart what he/she says!"

Well,....not reallllyyy. It just means the person has a history of high activity levels in correspondance on this forum. The point, though, is that even if most of us think he/she is mostly way off base, we still welcome the input and respect the PERSON.

That is what I love about this forum, dilletant though I may be.

You'll get your first one at 50 posts, second at 100, third at 500, fourth at 1000 and fifth at 2000. They are fun thing if you don't take them seriously.

Enjoy

Yeah, we've all seen 'em and as the situations change, so do the meanings.

As a kid (way back .... 1940's into early 50's) .... there was a chocolate candy, with just a hint of rum flavor, called "Stars." Man-o-man were they great. Wish I could find 'em today.

In primary grades, stars were put on our papers to indicate a good job was done on homework, projects or exams.

Then as I got into Boy Scouting, the stars became a thing of study .... something I learned about in pursuit of those ever elusive merit badges, so necessary for advancement in rank. Oh yeah, look at those stars ....... where's the dipper? Which dipper - big or little, you dip?!

In my nautical career, well of course stars were evermore important, in spite of the electronic age and things like radar and LORAN, etc., shooting stars means quite another thing to the navigating sailor than the land lubber.

Then of course, there were those who wore their stars - on their collars, on their shoulders, helmuts and most likely their socks. The Admirals and Generals even have personal flags with their stars on 'em for all to see. Anyway, stars meant quite something to take note of if one was in the military.

Now, alas, as a particpant of these fine chats, I find that stars have taken on yet another meaning. Oh, you've been around - I can tell by the stars - oooooooo, ahhhhhhh, what a real man!

Of course, I've left out the stars in Hollywood, TV, sports and the one's you see when encountering pain. Yeah - stars, something to ponder.

See ya! [tup] [}:)]

You can paint your user name and your stars under the window on the cab of your favorite locomotive, like the fighter pilots do.

It takes an iron man to play with a toy iron horse.

It all depends on your activity how fast you get stars. I have 3 greens and about 700 posts (i think) but Ive been around a long time. I mostly read topics and only post when I have something relevant to say. Even though I hang around and browse a lot Im not too active a poster. Spacemouse on the other hand has only been around a few months and already has well over 1000 posts. He is a very active poster.

...only if he gets that switcher back on the tracks can he make that position!!!

But as far as stars go, the discussions I read or commented on are more important than some indicator of how much time I spend on the forum. My wife thinks I spend too much time here as it is....heheheh[:D][8D]
