Locomotives were identified by Class number. Most of Santa Fe's Geep's were numbered in the 1900's.

I would have to consult a book, but I think anything Santa Fe numbered in the 700's would have been a switcher. It's doubtful whether Lionel - or their cusomer's would have much cared. I'm glad you do.

AT&SF #700-751 were GP9s built in 1956-1957. These units were renumbered into the 2900 series in the 1970 system renumbering.

I have a Proto 2000 Santa Fe GP9 #721. Don't know if Proto made a #722, but you could renumber one. What paint are you looking for as the Santa Fe GP9s were delivered in Zebra Stripes and then got repainted later on.

Missrepresentation in describing 'condition' is a no-no on EBay.
Call the seller and tell him you are going to post negative feedback - if this is the problem.

If it's identification ... #722 ... GP-9 or 7 .. Lionel or LL pedgree?... I wouldn't bother, as Toy train makers take liberties.

For example: Athearn made a GP-7, called it a GP-9, and painted it up for every RR imaginable. Next time buy a Proto 2000 GP-9. It was the only (plastic) GP-9 that I know of that WAS modeled to BE a true GP-9. It's also a superior runner.
