Turnouts
Posted by Anonymous on Saturday, April 30, 2005 12:07 PM
What's your preferred turnout manufacturer? I used Atlas Code 83 Custom Line # 4 Turnouts and I don't like them. Peco seems a lot better - like night & day. Any other manufacturers?

Atlas Code 55 #7 with Cabbose Ind. hand throws, I am still puting track down, don't have even the main loop compleated but the few I have down so far are working flawlessly. I banned two cars from the track that were wobbeling badly going thru the switches until I can check the wheels. I was afraid to glue them down, but I did aparrently make a mistake by soldering them to the flex track. It is possable I will see problems as time goes by but I am very happy with them now..

I agree with you on Atlas #4 turnouts. Every one that I have bought had bowed stock rails. I do like the #6's ok.

Now, I use Walthers/Shinohara. However, they are in large demand and are hard to find in stock. Always order more than you need. Occasionally, you may find a problem with the welds on the jumpers so always check for continuity before installing. Once installed they are great. Peco makes an excellent turnout, but are beyond my budget.

Peco, especially for heavy duty model railroading, like a display layout that has to run without problems.
Nigel N&W in HO scale, 1950 - 1955 (..and some a bit newer too) Now in San Jose, California
