Nice modelling fellas..

Well, in spite of a fairly hectic week week here on the lower left coast, I did manage to get some modelling done. First I got some lines down on the IM ramp. I also found I had to do a couple of minor fence adjustments..hence the FP45 on the adjacent siding checking clearances.

I also got started on the other side of the IM ramp, casting and installing retaining walls and getting the scenery base in. The open area is where the engine shop is going to be located.

great pictures dan, you say you were casting retaining walls, did you make your own moulds? and if so what did you use to make the mould? I have tried using the WS latex stuff but itss just too flimsy to make a wall mould or anything that needs to stay flat.

thanks in advance

Dang it all, I post some of my best work and I'm all proud, and I get squashed like a grape with all these fantastic posts. Karl, that was some outstanding stuff. The rest of you aren't far behind. That makes me about what, tenth?

Sorry, guys, I couldn't resist. No potshots, please! [X-)] I'm glad to see some O scale modeling pictures!

I wanted to say the same thing but I figured (just like you) that someone would take it seriously

Have a good day

Thanks Karl.

I made the molds myself. I took some aluminum foil and and used it to borrow the general pattern from and old casting I had. Then placed on wax paper in sort of a small cardboard di***o cast the master. Once I had the pattern, I scribed the lines with a dental pick to exaggerate the relief and shaped the sides to make a more uniform block. When I was satisified, I painted it with several coats of gloss paint. I did the same wax paper cardboard box thing for the mold, so there was some excess lip on all sides. The latex I got from a craft store, and made probably eight thin coats, letting it dry very thoroghly between...between aorund the 4th and 5th coats, I placed a layer of medical gauze on the mold to added strength while maintaining flexibility. In all it took about a week to make the mold.

Thanks Dan,

the molds I made took about a week also but I neglected the gauze stage, I'll try that this time.
Thanks again.
Karl.
