Any one know about the Durham and Southern?

A recent thread asked about round houses which prompted a memory of an MR article I read years ago about constructing round house walls from plaster. I remember that it was written by Jim Payne (forgive me if I mispelled the name, its been over 20 years since I saw it) whose wonderful Durham & Southern was often featured in MR articles. One of the famous "Lichen Belt" model railroads along with the Virginia and Ohio, it looked great in photos and inspired my newbie efforts as a teen. Is the D&S still running? Any one have news of Mr. Payne?
Thanks,
Ralph

Hi Ralph,

That was Jim Paine, not "Payne," and he hasn't been involved in model railroading for several years. He sold his D&S layout to a friend of his who wanted to rebuild it as a traction line. I don't know how far that project ever got, as I I haven't heard anything about it for some time.

Best wishes,

Andy

Thanks Andy!
That would explain why I haven't seen anything about the D&S despite continued coverage of the V&O (which I believe shared interchanges)over the years. I sure hope that a good part of the original layout exists. It was a nice one!
