What are the parameters for exploding photos?
Posted by SpaceMouse on Saturday, April 16, 2005 7:17 AM
I have been wondering why some photos will blow up and others won't. It diesn't seem to be a function of size because some are quite large. The ones that have difficulty seem to be the ones with a portrait orientation.

Anyone one know the rules?

I'm hardly an expert on this .... but was given some advice awhile ago on posting my pix to enable them to enlarge. Here's what I do ....

Right click on the photo you want to use .... go to "properties" - then you will see the url of the photo ......

I use Railimages.com - and the url comes up with the word "thumb" in it. Copy the url.

When you paste that url onto wherever you want to post it ... back out the "thumb" - be sure you get it all, including the second "." Posting it this way will enable one to "click" on the photo and it will enlarge ........

See ya![tup]

Thanks, but I have no problem with posting pictures. Here's and example.

http://www.trains.com/community/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=35517

Got to the post by tstage. I know Tom knows how to post a picture. In fact, if you move your mouse over the picture, it gives you the link pointer to enlarge it. But it doesn't work.

I want to know where the boundrys are concerning whether or not the picture will enlarge so I can size my originals to open every time.

As I said before, it only seems to be portrait oriented photos. See the example above.

Chip,

Thanks for looking into this. I'll look forward to understand it more for future pics. [:)]

It depends on where you are posting from and to, and how you do it. If you look in the properties, Space posted the picture as a thumb, but tstage posted the thumb itself.
What could have happened.... did.

Hey, fellas!

I decided to try and substantiate Chip's claim about the possibility of there being a vertical limit on expanding portrait-oriented pics. Here's what I came up with:

Portrait

Landscape

Well, it looks like there may be some truth to that. I don't know for sure whether it's an issue with other sites lke Photobucket or Shutterfly though.
