I think MR should put pictures or videos of the MR&T on this website. I'd really like to see more of this layout. Ive looked but can only find pics in the MR magazines.

I agree. Something like a virtual or photo tour would be kinda neat.

Yeah I'd like to see a virtual tour too, or a book or large article. What I've been able to see looks good, like to see more.

UPJohn, good suggestion but take action on this. Contact the MRR staff!

Andy Sperandeo was involved with that layout. He makes a surprise post here every know and then.

Just go to the bottom of this page and on the brown colored line, click on the link that says "contact us". Model Railroader Staff persons are pretty good about responding, just give them a day or so.

Cheers and High Greens!

Actually, as luck has it you will see a small portion of the MR&T in a construction article in the June 2005 issue. (That is strictly coincidental though... planning a magazine is done months in advance.)

As for a full tour, it's on our radar screen as something to add to our Web site but at this point it's an idea and there's no planned due date for such a project.

Thanks,
Erik

Actually...if you've been around this forum for quite a while you might recall that there used to be a virtual tour of the MR&T available by clicking on a listing on the left side of the opening page (a dozen or more images of the layout's highlights and well known features). Unfortunately, when the MR forums were redesigned a few years back, this feature was dropped.

Thank you, Bergie!

I really enjoyed watching this layout in action when the PBS special "Tracks Ahead" featured it back in the early 1990s.

With innovations like DCC, this layout is really going to be impressive.

Looking forward to it!

Cheers![:)][:D]

MR did 2 articles on the M,R,& T. The first one was in the March 1985 issue, and covered an operating session. The second one was done in the early 90's I beleive. This article was about the changes to the M,R& T layout. It had a colored drawing of the layout in the article. I have both of these magazines. They were well written. I have been to the Kalmbach headquarters quite a few times, and its neat to get a tour of the building, including seeing the layout. I was told that all employees there can operate trains on the layout.if anyone ever gets a chance to go to Waukesha,Wi,this is one place that you must see.

In fact, there have been no less than eight articles concerning various aspects of the MR&T in the pages of MR between 1985 and 1997! They include: Mar 85, Nov 86, Jan and Oct 88, Dec 89, Jul 90, Mar 92 and Jun 97. In addition, there was another article very recently regarding modeling the latest in MR&T locomotives. All together, if you look around carefully, there's almost enough published material out there to build your own copy of the MR&T!

Hey, Bergie, how about suggesting to the editors an article on the Troy & Northern? As I recall it, this is the only surviving piece of the 'original' MR&T layout and has never really been covered in the pages of MR.

And there's another coming in the June issue. Cody Grivno just built a very nice overpass at the west end of the yard, and it's a design that would work on almost any layout. The story shows how he built it.
Thanks for reading MR,
Terry
