Trading Trains
Posted by knewsom on Tuesday, April 12, 2005 11:29 PM
I have mentioned this in a few other posts previously. I have been working on a site that will allow people to trade (not sell) train related items to others. The site is now up and running at http://www.trainstotrade.com . The idea behind it is to allow users to list items that they may no longer user or want or items that they have a surplus of (i.e. parts). Other users can make an offer for the item through the site. The site is free (and there are no plans to charge for it, as I host it at home). All I ask in return for using it, is any suggestions that could make it better and more user-friendly.

You can search on items that are listed or on items that people are looking for. For instance I model N&W, Southern, and C&O (steam era) in HO scale, so I am always looking for hoppers or passenger cars from the 1920's and 1930's from these roads. So if you have some N&W hoppers to trade, you can search for users that are looking for them. After trades are completed you can rank the trading partner, so that others will know whether the trader is fair and honest.

I have listed several things that I have and no longer use on the site to start with. If anyone is interested in using it please take a look at http://www.trainstotrade.com or if you want more detail you can contact me at knewsom@yahoo.com.

Thanks,
Kevin

Thanks for taking an interest. Let me know if you have any problems listing items or trying to make a trade. I tried to make it as easy to use as possible, but there still may be questions, so I am happy to answer them.

Thanks,
Kevin

Seems like it may be awhile before it catches on but I'll give it a try anyway.

I posted a N-scale saw mill diorama and my Proto 2K Fa2/FB2 unit.

This was a really good idea.

Thats a great idea! I'm sure people have been tossing the idea around for years, I'm glad you put pencil to paper and put the plan in action. Sure Ebay has some good deals, but this provides a place for railroaders to interact one on one and keeping the ebay/paypal profits out of the picture.[tup][tup]

I have added some more functionality to the site for listing items. In case you mess up and want to completely remove an item for trade, prior to publishing, there is now the ability to remove it.

Please let me know of any problems you are having with listing, searching, posting pictures, etc.

Thanks,
Kevin
