Another versatile track for switching and car-spotting is the "house track", which is a double-ended siding. House tracks often loop around a depot or otherwise attain separation from the main line in order to facilitate loading and unloading.

House tracks differ from passing sidings for operating purposes (on the prototype and the model) in that a car can be left on a house track (but not on a passing siding) without getting special permission from the dispatcher to do so.
